Oasis Center in Dubai reopened on 29 March 2009, information updated (the original Oasis Center burnt down in 2005). The new one is much bigger, by about 4 times. No cinema though. Had a walk around on opening day in the evening. Bit of a construction site outside, car park entry seems a bit awkward and some funny navigation inside. It’s underground which is good for the summer, although everyone seemed to want to use the outside carpark at the front. The things people do in Dubai to try and avoid walking an extra 50 meters …
Oasis Centre is not as large, or spectacular as somewhere like The Dubai Mall or Ibn Battuta Mall but it has a good range of shops including a huge E-max electronics shop, and a large Home Center furniture store. And the food court is a decent improvement over the old Oasis Court foodcourt which was quite unappealing. The mini- Carrefour supermarket hadn’t opened yet (next week said the information place) which was a bit of a bummer since I’d wanted to do some grocery shopping. Opening hours a bit confusing. The sign on the door said the Carrefour would be open 0900 to midnight seven days per week, but the information center said it would be 0900-2200 Saturday to Wednesday, and to midnight only on Thursdays and Fridays.
Oasis Center is on the desert side of the Sheikh Zayed Road (Abu Dhabi to Dubai direction) between interchanges 2 and 3, handy to the Al Quoz area but also good for Jumeirah and Al Wasl on the other side of the SZR.
