The total UAE population in 2009 stood at 8.19 million according to the UAE National Bureau of Statistics, as reported in the press on 30 May 2010. That was an increase from the 2008 figure of 8.07 million according to the same organisation. But UAE population data seems to be somewhat unrealiable, to say the least. A report in October 2009 said the UAE population was 6 million at the time. And a UAE Ministry of Economy estimate for 2008 said the population was only 4.76 million, not quite half the figure according to the statistics bureau.
