The National was a new newspaper in April 2008, launched with great fanfare (and great salaries as the public discovered when confidental information was leaked onto the internet in March 2009), and promoting itself as relatively censorship free for a UAE newspaper. The National is published by the Abu Dhabi Media Council (ADMC).
