University of Nevada Las Vegas RAK, UAE (UNLV RAK) updated. Plans still seem to be in place for a UAE branch of UNLV to open in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) despite concerns voiced in the UNLV student rag (The Rebel Yell) on 31 August 2009 about whether Israeli students could attend (the UAE Embassy in Washington reportedly said yes), and UAE laws about homosexual activity. Apparently Dubai and Abu Dhabi were under consideration but it looks like RAK has the winning spot if UNLV UAE goes ahead. Construction etc not expected to start until 2010 (which might mean a September 2011 opening date). There was also mention of funding concerns. No doubt UNLV are also looking carefully at what happened with the RAK George Mason University project that closed down earlier in 2009.
